I keep mine on my fridge and it helps remind me of our families weekly reading! It's also fun for your kids to mark off the chapters as we go!
Matthew 11: 28-30
The central part of this weeks reading is in Matthew 11: 28-30 so I have created a pretty printable you can use and hang in your homes. This is a great reminder of what Christs atonement can do for each of us as we take his yoke upon us.
My Yoke is Easy and My Burden is Light
Getting into this weeks lesson and making it fun for your family. This can be a little difficult for such a serious topic. In Matthew 11 28 30 we learn that if we use the power of Christ's atonement we can have rest through him from our burdens and our cares. I have created kind of a silly Mad Gab game you can play with your families this week. The game includes phrases found in your come follow me manual for this weeks study.
Take my Yoke Upon You
As you play this silly game really think about the words in Matthew 11: 28-30. And use the questions below to really bring this lesson to life. As you discuss these questions you will be able to find the deeper meaning behind the scriptures we will read this week. This allows you to apply the lesson to our lives today and now.
Questions To Ask During This weeks reading (all are directly from the Come Follow Me manual)
- What power did Christ give His Apostles to help them fulfill their mission?
- How can you access His power in the work you have been called to do? (see 2 Corinthians 6:1–10; D&C 121:34–46).
- What do you feel impressed is the work the Lord wants YOU to do?
- Have you had experiences when this divine promise was fulfilled in your life, perhaps when you bore your testimony, gave a blessing, or had a conversation with someone? Consider sharing your experiences with a loved one or recording them in a journal.
- What did Jesus mean by "I came not to send peace, but a sword"?
- "How do my covenants yoke me to and with the Savior?"
- "What do I need to do to come unto Christ?"
- "In what sense is the Savior's yoke easy and His burden light?"
- Do you see yourself in the account in these verses of the Savior's visit to Simon the Pharisee? Are you ever like Simon?
- What can you do to follow the woman's example of showing humility and love for Jesus Christ?
- Christ? When have you experienced the tenderness and mercy that the Savior showed the woman?
- What do you learn from these verses about how forgiveness strengthens our love for the Savior?
- As we consider the messages of the most recent general conference, how are we doing as a family at receiving and following the counsel of modern-day Apostles?
- Apostles? How is our obedience to their counsel bringing us closer to Jesus Christ?
- You can help your family visualize the Savior's teachings in these verses by having them take turns trying to pull something heavy, first by themselves and then with help. What are some of the burdens we carry?
- What does it mean to take Christ's yoke upon ourselves?
- How can we "do well" on the Sabbath day?
- In what ways can the Savior heal us on the Sabbath?
